Weekend in Destin, FL

For the past 15 years, Ken and I have been fortunate enough to have the use of my mom's vacation home in Destin.  Our home in Slidell, LA is only 4 hours away, so over the years we've been able to "slip away" to Destin quite often.  We've had a lot of great memories in Destin, and were lucky enough to have use of the house throughout our daughter's childhood years.  However, all good things must come to an end at some point, and the family home in Destin is no exception.  My mother, who also lives in Slidell, has decided to sell the vacation home in Destin.  She recently accepted an offer on the home and the act of sale is in just a few weeks.  Ken and I haven't had a chance to go to Destin this year, so we took a last minute trip with our daughter and her boyfriend.

We packed the beach towels and snorkel gear and were on our way to Destin Thursday night.  We couldn't wait to get there, as we've been really stressed with a lot of unexpected obligations lately and needed some R&R.  Also, our daughter had just completed her first week at LSU and we were anxious to hear about it.

On our way to Destin we stopped in Pensacola, FL to check out Jimmy Buffet's new Margaritaville Hotel and grab some food.  The hotel was really nice with an area for lounging on the beach or playing volleyball.  However, only Phase 1 has been completed, and therefore there wasn't a restaurant to eat at yet.  We were disappointed, but we found a great Sports Bar & Grill down the road and had the best wings we've ever eaten.  The plans for the hotel looked amazing, with a restaurant, lazy river, pool, waterfall and all kinds of other cool stuff.

Well, our plans of swimming and snorkeling didn't work out.  It rained the entire weekend!  We tried to keep a good attitude and make the best of things.  After all, it's not often we get to spend time with our daughter.  We did have a few breaks in the day to take a few pics and enjoy the scenery.

The above picture is the harbor at Destin, and there were one or two boats in the rain.  The harbor is one of our favorite spots in Destin.  We love watching the boats go by.  Destin is a fishing town, so we didn't see many sailboats, but there were a lot of really fine power boats.

Our daughter grew up spending summers in Destin.  The above is her and Ken on the beach.  I love this picture!

Here are two pictures from 1998 in Destin.  We're sure going to miss our family home there!

We're looking forward to a SUNNY Labor Day weekend.   Hasta luego ... until then.  Mid-Life Cruising!

Sorry it rained all weekend, but I'm glad that you all got to spend one more weekend at your moms summer home. How fun.

I loved the boats the very best. Of course I would.

Have a terrific day. :)

What a cute picture of your daughter and her dad! Absolutely priceless!
But to lose such a wonderful piece of property is a shame! Years ago, Hans' family sold their struggling hotel in Ft. Lauderdale; today it's a 5 star destination, and we were just looking at it in our Florida cruising guide!
Oh well, I guess we just need to enjoy what we have today! Right?
