New Year, Same Day

Well, I just realized that I haven't written anything since last year!  Ken and I hope everybody had a good New Year's Eve.  With so many people gettin' drunk on this particular night, we don't like to go too far from home. So, we went to a friend's place nearby where we sat around a bonfire while drinking our favorite beverages (wine for me, beer for Ken) and enjoying the company of friends.  The forecast called for rain all night, but we got lucky and only had a cloudy, misty night.  The bonfire kept our area dry and warm, so it was all good.  We started "celebrating" around 4:00 pm, so by midnight we were already home and watched the fireworks out back.  We live in a waterfront community, and I'm still amazed every New Year's at how many fireworks are in the sky where we live.  I swear this year was the most so far!  After we went inside, the fireworks probably went on for another hour and I kept looking outside to make sure our sailboat hadn't been invaded by some firework that went off-course.

This past week was like any other, with Ken going off to work every day to tackle whatever construction job he's doing at the time and myself going to the real estate office waiting on a property call that just doesn't come.  What do I do with all my time at a desk?  Work on my other two sites (look on the sidebar), read the blogs of other people with our same dream (also on sidebar), and (call me weird) sneak in some workouts in my office!  The substitute teaching hasn't really worked out and I've put out quite a few resumes, but nothing yet.  I'm really hoping it's working out that way because I'm meant to stay in real estate.  After being in the business for 10 years, I'm really hoping this year is better and I can stay.

We (I should say Ken and hired help), have continued to get some work done on our house, including refinishing the front door, painting the back doors (3 sets of french doors that lead to a covered patio),  paint the garage door, and paint about half of the soffit and fascia.  We really like the neutral color that I picked, and it's much better than what was there before.  Gettin' it ready!  However, we still have a large list of things to do to the house to get it looking its best.   We bought the house after it flooded from Katrina, and there's a lot of little things to be done.

We have been enjoying our daughter being home in between college semesters.  She's off doing her own thing, but it's so nice to be able to "leave the light on" for her.  She'll be heading back to campus in about a week.

This weekend ... football!  Tonight the college our daughter attends (LSU) plays the Cotton Bowl and tomorrow afternoon the Saints are in the playoffs.  We'll be planted in front of a tv somewhere pulling for our teams and then recuperating Sunday while there's an 80% chance of rain.  I'm thinking movies and pizza!

Oh, and by the way, yesterday (January 6, 2010) kicked off the Mardi Gras season.  Time for king cakes and yes, more partying.  With yet another celebration in New Orleans, I decided to write an article on hangover cures.  Hopefully you won't need this info, but it's entertaining anyway.

Hasta luego ... until then.  Mid-Life Cruising!

We didn't party to ring in the new year so we felt wonderful on the first. We do enjoy our champagne, but we've learned not to overdo. Took some years to figure that one out.

Looks like you had a great start of the year. Good for you. I had to hop over to see what your cures were for hangovers. I like the sofa one the best.

Have a terrific day. :)
