Well, I guess you could say Ken and I have a fairly new habit ... hitting the lake on the weekend! It's been a great way to relieve stress and when a weekend goes by without time on Nirvana we feel guilty and not as relaxed for the upcoming work week. We're finding that naming our boat "Nirvana" was a good choice ... it truly is bliss on the water! I have to admit that lately we've done more relaxing on the water than sailing. In fact, this past Sunday we boarded Nirvana and took her to the lake without ever raising a sail. However, we did stop at the local marina to visit with friends on their sailboats and then motored to the lake to anchor and cool off. It was another great day! It's amazing how miserable life on land can be when it's 98 degrees outside with high humidity, versus how comfortable it is when on the water. I guess it's nature's air conditioner!
Ken and I about to jump in and cool off!
The noodle ... what a great invention! Why didn't we think of this after all those years of wearing our life jackets like a diaper!
On another note, we've decided to wait on purchasing davits for our sailboat. With the unexpected rental expenses we're gonna need to save a little more. When we do have the extra funds we'll probably spend them on new ports instead. Nirvana has a few leaks that we really need to take care of. We'd also like a GPS so we can venture out past Lake Pontchartrain. We really wanna see some blue water and dolphin!
Hasta luego ... until then. Mid-Life Cruising!

Hey there, found your sailing blog a few days ago, I'm over in the Savannah, GA area experiencing the exact same heat problems as you. Thank goodness for anchoring around some cool water, hope to start my cruise next year!
Now you see why we are on our boat every weekend. The very same reason. It's the best place in the world if you ask me.
Have a terrific day. :)
At least you are out on the water! Sailing or not - it still beats being on land! I'm envious! But keep those posts coming (maybe I'm a bit masochistic :) ).
Go sailing every weekend, or at least as often as possible. It pays.
For instance; You buy a boat for $10K. Sail once, and the value of your trip is 10K. That's an awful high expense for just one sail. Next trip? 5K per sailing experience, etc. The goal is to get the value of each trip to zero, which is a mathematic impossibility.

LOL Barco ... love "Captain Ron"! Yes, we plan on getting our money's worth on our sailboat, especially once we're living on her. Tux and Pete ... thanks for checking in and we're now following your sites. It's great to follow others that are also working on the dream. Sandee, it's always great hearing from you and we know you're enjoying your gorgeous boat in California. It's a beauty!
Great habit, I heartily support it! It's so great to get out on the water, whether sailing or relaxing at anchor, isn't it? We envy your warm weather, no, really we do! We have barely had any days above 68 degrees... Doesn't feel like Summer at all!
Cheers, Kyra
Hi! I found your blog through Windtraveler. I've been reading from the beginning like I did theirs, and have reached this post. I CRACKED UP at the comment about wearing life jackets like diapers. I did the SAME THING growing up! My parents had a house and boat at Lake Livingston (in Texas). Too funny! I just had to thank you both for this blog and that little flashback! :)
