My Latest Cruising Books!

Yesterday, I was excited to order a book that I had been wanting for a while now ... "The Boat Galley Cookbook"!  It just became available for purchase, and I didn't waste any time buying my copy.  I've been familiar with the authors Carolyn and Jan for a while now.  Both women have years of experience cruising and living on a sailboat with their husbands, and I've already learned a lot of great tips from them on their web sites, The Boat Galley (Carolyn) and Commuter Cruiser (Jan).   Since this book will be so handy, I didn't want this on my Nook.  I wanted a copy that I could put easily get my hands on.

As I was about to place my order, I noticed that I could either pay about $5 in shipping or spend another $5 and be eligible for free shipping.  This was a no brainer for me ... I need to buy another book!  I started browsing Amazon for another book, but I didn't want a love story or some fictional book.  I wanted another book that Ken and I could really learn from and refer to.  I found "The One-Minute Guide to the Nautical Rules of the Road".  This book sounded like something we really needed!  Have I mentioned lately that Ken and I know nothing about navigation?  I'm equally excited about this book!

Yesterday was just a day for books I guess, because I also came across a free e-book that a fellow cruiser has written.  Her name is Jan, and she's part of a Facebook group called "Women Who Sail".  I love this group, and I've already learned so much from these other women.  When I heard that Jan had written a book about downsizing from a large home to a sailboat, I knew that this was another book I had to read.  After all, we're currently working on downsizing to our sailboat ... perfect timing!  Jan has been generous enough to offer a FREE download all week, today being THE LAST DAY!  Even if you don't have a Kindle, you can download Jan's book to your computer.  Since I have a Nook, that's what I did.

I'm really excited about these books, and suggest you check them out too.  I'll write about my thoughts once I've had a chance to read them.

Another book that I'm anxiously waiting for publication is written by the Bumfuzzles, Pat and Ali Schulte.
I've been following their blog for a couple of years now and I've already read the first book they published (below).  Pat and Ali have been cruising for several years since the young age of twenty-something and they make most of their money from day trading.  Pat's been working with another guy on his second book, which is supposed to be like "Trading for Dummies" kind of concept.  The book shares what Pat has learned over the years.  Who doesn't want to make money for their cruising kitty?!   Needless to say, I'm buying it as soon as it's available!  With a second book on the way, I have a feeling Pat and Ali are going to supplement their cruising kitty quite nicely as "authors".

So I'm adding books to my little library about downsizing, cruising, cooking, navigating ... all perfect for beginners like us.  Just add making money from day trading and we're set right?!

Hasta luego ... until then.  Mid-Life Cruising!

How cool. I'd love a post about that cookbook. Cooking on board can present problems for many. For us it's like cooking at home just in a smaller space.

Have a terrific day and weekend. :)

I am reading "Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual" by Nigel Calder while waiting for some decent weather to cross Lake Erie. Great addition to your library.

I'm waiting for that book on day trading to make an appearance, too. Sounds like a good plan to me. Just bought Jan's book and look forward to reading it!
